The cultural ties between Iran and India go back to the ancient times, to such an ancient time that determining its real date is impossible.
This antiquity of relations can be understood from the extensive similarities in the languages of the two countries. It is for the same reason that Sanskrit is called as the sister of the ancient Iranian languages. Unique lingual commonalities are the reason that the Sanskrit language has an important role in understanding of the Iranian languages and the Iranian languages have a greater role in understanding the ancient Indian languages.
India and Iran have been familiar names for each other. The names of India and Makran have been used in the Shahnameh at least a hundred times. The same is true for other books as well.
In the later periods also India and its culture has been understood in Iran through the ancient texts and documents. In the existing heritage of the Sassanid period, India and its culture have exerted a surprising influence over Iran. This influence is better felt in different arts and sciences like astronomy and mathematics.
A number of Indian scholars were teachers in the great university of the Gandi Shahpur of Iran and used to teach there.
Iran also during this period has laid great influence over India. Some of the common heritage of this period is the Indian tales which are sometimes presented to the reader in an Iranian format.
In the period of Khusro Anushirvan, a number of Indian tales including the Panchtantra were translated into Iranian language by the name of Kalileh Wa Dameneh.Shimla In5Jul2013 (43)
This work was later translated from the Persian language to Hindi. Other stories like the tales of Behram, story of the parrots and the tales of Sindbad were all translated from Hindi into Persian.
Iranians have played a distinguished role in the transmission of the heritage of India to the other languages. They were the first translators of these stories into Arabic after the arrival of Islam. The Europeans became familiar with the India stories and even Indian — Iranian sciences through this way. In addition to the great role of the Iranians in the translation of the Indian texts to the Arabic language and their transmission to the Western world during the Islamic period, they have also rendered great scientific services to India. The famous Iranian scientist, Aburehan Albiruni, during his 16 years stay in India, presented his master piece named “Tehqeeq Ma’al le Hind” to the world which is known as the Encyclopedia of India.فتحعلی شاه در کاخ ریاست ج دهلی
Masoodi was yet another Iranian scholar, who wrote many detailed reports about India. Moreover, the scientists like Koshiar and Khwarizmi learned the Indian mathematics and globalized this science.
From this point of view and for understanding the two cultures and extensive lingual, religious and cultural commonalities we need to organize seminars and specific exhibitions every year. The seminar on Indian tales in the Persian language which is study
